Business Casual Work-Flow

Everyone around me seems to have invested in lovely winter jackets and scarfs just so that they can don anything underneath and are good to go to their places of work. “Its a waste of my time trying to look all lush when I would eventually be wrapped up all day in my shawl/cardigan” a friend of a friend’s I met at lunch said to me last week.

Sincerely I have tailored my appetite to the items sold at my office restaurant lately because really, I’d rather keep all that walking-out-of-the-office-shivering to before and after work alone.

Okay so this week I have decided to abandon England’s bleak weather and have taken a swift stroll over to Nigeria’s capital. Our week’s feature is a young female banker who has moved really swiftly from a corp member to a team leader within 3 years. Lets see how she got dressed for work on the week that was..

Funmilola V. Soyebo
Occupation: Banker
Team Leader Frontline Service
Stanbic IBTC, Abuja.
Interests: Reading books even though I don’t get around to doing that anymore, traveling and having drinks with friends.

Top: Forever 21
Skirt: EOS
Shoes: Forever 21
Bag: Valentino
Style Inspiration: I was in no mood for the cliché Monday look. Most importantly, I was having drinks after work because ordinarily, I’d have gone with black shoes, I didn’t want to need to get home before my evening. As Steph explained to me prior to this shoot, thats what the metrogypsie brand represented – versatility – so, yeah what better way to start my feature.

Dress: Debenhams
Shoes: Atmosphere
Bag: Lancel
Style Inspiration: Out of office client meeting. Had to keep it corporate today because I was representing my company in a deal. On a good day its not in my place to attend such meetings but I brought this client into my organisation hence.

Jacket: Nameless
Top: Atmosphere
Pants: Forever 21
Belt: Forever 21
Shoes (heels): Garage
Shoes (flats): Newlook
Bag: Edna Ronay
Style Inspiration: An article on an old copy of In Style magazine I found randomly. This lady was saying how she looked all hot going to work and then on getting to her office she takes off her heels and wears flat shoes. This was quite different at my work place because people wore flats to work then switched to heels when they got there. I found that article inspiring just because I get to supervise people a lot so I always need to be everywhere around my branch so that worked.

Cardigan: Newlook
Dress: Next
Shoes: Next
Statement neck piece: H&M
Green bag: Nameless (gift)
Style Inspiration: I was informed yesterday that we would have some compulsory in house training on Saturday and a team leader from another branch who is a contract staff works just 5 shifts so he was going to be absent today and I had to cover for him there as its a really massive office. The fact I was going to another office inspired me to wear much more colour today in other to radiate possibly fun or joy to my interim subordinates. Lol.

Denim Dress: Forever 21
Shoes: Melissa
Bag: Dorothy Perkins
Style Inspiration: Freedom. All week I’d been wearing clothes that clung so much to my body. Its Friday (you’d see the joy on my face below) and apart from the fact I am going out for drinks, I needed a breather.

Top: H&M
Jeans: TKMaxx
Shoes: Nameless (gift)
Style Inspiration: Its Saturday I should be looking drab as people shouldn’t be made to do anything work related on the weekend but I am glad for some reason I mean its a good day and.. oh please ama let this clown finish but the only inspiration behind this look is the valentines day, hence the colour of her shoe and top. For some TMI (too much information) also, the ‘V’ initial in her name above stands for Valentina, February 14th is her birthday.

Some of y’all may be wondering the reason behind the post title choice. Well  Juste-milieu is a French term that means the midpoint between two extremes originally used to depict art that was a mix of both real everyday life and art almost as good as the precision of photography. The inspiration behind this choice was precisely the dress code at Stanbic IBTC – business casual – which we all know is like the intermediacy between the strictness of a formal look and the laid backness of a casual look.

There it goes from lovers day girl Funmi. Thanks babe for letting us have you on here.

Do leave a comment below as usual on your favourite look and if time permits you, create a look of your own inspired by the outfits above.  A winner would be picked by Funmi who would then wear the look in a follow-up post. Happy Birthday in advance Funmi xx.

Thanks guys,
Catch you next time.

Back To The Studying Life

Hi guys,

Thank you so much for the support, response and feedback from the sophomore post.  Welcome to the next one. Lol☺.

Most of us have been in or know people who have been in situations whereby work experience doesn’t seem adequate to take that plunge into a preferable role, get a promotion or get into the fancy company you desire. There are also various other reasons to decide to study further . One could enjoy studying a specific subject and decide to continue it, you could have been offered a scholarship or you may want to change career paths and getting that postgraduate or professional qualification is a prerequisite.

Your reason might be as certain as them ones listed above or just bare confusion whereby you decide to study and while at it, consider available options for your future.

So just trying to be clear, we haven’t lost the plot everything done here on metrogypsie is centred around ‘the lady on her grind’.

Well, our feature this week is a young woman who from a personal perspective decided that taking some time off work to study was the best option.

Onyeka Udechukwu
Occupation: Undergrad, MSc Business Innovation (Queen Mary University, London)
Interests: Shopping,Fashion, Jewellery, Dreaming.

Hair band – Marks & Spencer
Jacket – French Connection
Pink jumper – H&M
Black tights – Zara
Shoes – Dr Martens
Bag – Louis Vuitton
Hat – Nameless shop on my street
Green scarf – Mango
Style Inspiration: Sincerely my only inspiration today was the snow.. We all had a seminar on Saturday which was cancelled only after we all got to school due to the weather so I was going to skip classes today as well due to the weather also but I knew Steph would have my head on a platter. It was so cold I layered my head pieces as well. Like, who does that?

Jacket – Mango
Black long sleeved top – Miss Selfridges
Jeans – River Island
Shoes – Aldo
Bag – Hermès
Style Inspiration: Lovely day compared to the weekend. When I considered all the work I had to do today, seeing as my project supervisor whose office is really far from my lecture halls wasn’t at school on Monday, I had to keep it simple. I also had socks on and hoped these shoes wouldn’t make me slip but thankfully all was well and good. So the fact I had to run around for my project was be inspiration.

Jacket – Warehouse
Denim top – Miss Selfridges
Faux leather skirt – Warehouse
Tights – Same as Monday
Shoes – Asos
Bag – Chloé
Style Inspiration: I think this week I finally let go of the sad feelings of being in school again after being fully employed. You know, walking around from bus stop to bust stop to underground station, studying into the night and all. I decided to draw on this new senation and go to school looking like a school girl. So there..

Jumper – Marks & Spencer
Jeans – Apple bottoms
Belt – Tommy Hilfiger
Black long sleeved top – Same as Tuesday
Shoes – Ugg
Bag – Same as Wednesday
Style Inspiration: Oh well, from the side of my bed where I woke up this morning I could see Friday with its lovely face smiling at me so I decided to keep it cool. I was so excited I am sure you would see that from my pictures. Steph had no criticism with them lot because I was radiating joy all the way during my session.

Orange Jacket – Mango
Black dress – Karen Millen
Tights – Same as Monday & Wednesday
Shoes – Russell and Bromley
Bag – Christian Dior
Style Inspiration: 3 words, dissertation proposal presentation. I was going to look all serious and bland, with black shoes as well then I remembered my days working in Lagos and how Friday was always a day of joy where one had to be ready for drinks or something in the evening. This made me add colour in form of my shoes and jacket.

These are pictures from the seminar that never took place as she explained on the Monday look above. I really wonder what the inspiration was before she got to school I’m sure it had nothing to do with building and hugging a cold man though..oh well..

There it goes from shopperholic Onyeka. Thanks babe for letting us have you on here.

Do leave a comment below as usual on your favourite look and if time permits you, create a look of your own inspired by the outfits above.  A winner would be picked by Onyeka who would then wear the look in a follow-up post.

The winner from the previous post has been chosen  by Maddy on the comment section of that post (here). Also, I decided to put the outfit details and inspiration before the pictures. Does this seem better? Kindly drop a comment so I would know.

PilOt | #HauteyOfTheWeek, Madalina. #Debut

Asides the day I took my Bloomberg exams, I cannot remember having to stare blankly at my computer screen this long. Whoop! there goes my first sentence.

Anyways, welcome to my blog people :). This is going to be something like a lookbook. Periodically, I would put up posts of people, mostly females. Each feature would have pictures (possibly a Monday to Friday thing) showing what the person had on on each day and what inspired that look. I have always been beguiled by work wear…not just items in a store labelled as office clothes or whatever but what a lady would eventually decide to wear while in a bid to secure the necessities of life..

This is basically the idea behind metrogypsie.  I only hope I would successfully juggle this with my really tasking day job.

So then, here we go..

Occupation: Finance (Deloitte LLP, London)
Interests: Handball, Fitness, Meeting people, Music.

Cream coloured Jacket – H&M,

Black/Grey Dress – French Connection UK
Shoes – Newlook
Scarf and Bag – Random
Sheer coloured tights

Style Inspiration: Okay so this is one of my ummmph work dresses.. I went for an art exhibition (fancy huh) on Sunday and met so many posh people so I was in high spirits on Monday morning lol. Was in the mood to get some office attention so, yes..

Black/White Jacket: My tailor back home (Romania)

Baby Pink with black lapel Jacket: Select
White Shirt: H&M
Skirt: Jane Norman
Shoes: Newlook
Sheer coloured tights

Style Inspiration: Today, I decided to look a tad serious and warm. I did not want to wear colour but managed red lip stick and a pony tail to look innocent too. *wink*

Black Jacket: Newlook

Red Dress: Collection
Shoes: Newlook
Sheer coloured tights

Style Inspiration: I had Victoria Bekham in mind while I dressed up this morning lol…okay maybe not with the length of my shoe heels. I am not sure why I’m smiling cos Steph made me almost strip in the cold. Anyway, I felt elegant and dressed elegantly.

Black dress: Dorothy Perkins

Jacket: Dorothy Perkins
Shoes: Newlook

Style Inspiration: I have two dates today.. *giggles* hence this my simple and classic number. Got back from my coffee date before this shoot. i love love this dress cos although the bottom is so tight without a slit, I walk slowly but really lady like as well and it accentuates my body real good. I love it for a first impression. My inspirations today were my dates basically. Steph made me stand like hangers…said its the model stance. Ha!

..and its Friday!

Dress: Topshop

Boots: Newlook
Style Inspiration: Lol, thats how this silly babe says she’s tired of typing.. So I’d handle this bit.. Mad is  a surfer chic in her daily style routine,,you know like em beach loving…life is always a beach sorta people. She likes to drape anything on and just chill. She really hates work clothes. Well yeah so she basically did same today. Its Friday and as you might already know we dress down over here. She had to do black tights as against sheer ones because I think the dress sticks to her body so much and the back goes really short at some point after she walks for a bit.

I am not sure if these outfits truly depict me I actually love to wear make-up but mostly when I’m going out on a date or to party. Besides I was instructed to let my dressing flow with my moods and all that this week by you-kno-who. Yes and I really love Newlook shoes. I think they get super comfortable quickly and are extremely affordable. Besides she a Subject Matter Expert at work meaning she always has to patrol around her department, her comfort is imperative.
There it goes from Pink Scarf Madalina. Thanks babe for letting us have you on here.
