Lady On Staycation

Hi guys,

Our big giveaway would be next week and would be open for two weeks after which the winners would be selected, so I hope you are all subscribing and liking the facebook page, (click here to like).

I had a chilled out and lovely weekend, hope you did too or at least had more fun. My favourite female housemate in the Big Brother Africa house, Tanzania’s Feza survived eviction, I did a bit of shopping for… (would keep you posted on that soon), and yes, I am psyched and pumped for the week.

Our feature today is a working lady who decided to take time off and for a staycation. I didn’t even know that was a real word till recently. It basically refers to a period where one decides to stay off work and generally do the kind of recreative and leisure stuff you would ordinarily do during a vacation, but within driving distance to your home.

Here goes..

Before I sign out for the week, I want to share something.
Yesterday evening I Beyonce posted this picture on her instagram of her and I was like BAM! She definitely looks at my page. Like..

By the way, my picture was taken 4 weeks ago (with the caption “Bow Down B*tches, from a Bey song), you can check my instagram (@JauneLion) to confirm. *Phew* just thought to keep y’all abreast anyway. Also, our feature this week, Nkechi is a huge Bey stan so yes, its all damn apt.

As promised last week, the dates for the give-away are 17 June – 30 June, 2013.

Do leave a comment below as usual on your favourite look and if time permits you, create a look of your own inspired by the outfits above.  A winner would be picked by Nkechi who would then wear the look in a follow-up post (coming soon).

A day at MT salon

So there guys, we have it from Sally. Thank you so much dear for letting us have you on here.

Just before we call it a week, I want to share some pictures from the concert I attended on Saturday June 01, 2013, Chime For Change. It is a new Women Empowerment event pioneered 100 years after the year Emily Davison became a martyr for women’s rights when she threw herself at the Epsom Derby.

It was totally star studded. Below are pictures of artistes who came on stage;

Madonna and Ryan Reynolds (with wife, Blake Lively) amongst others like Zoe Saldana and Jada Pinkett Smith gave touching and inspiring speeches on how to make donations and support the cause.

Rita Ora, Jessie J (both performed)

Laura Pausini, Mary J Blige (both performed)

Florence and the Machine, Timbaland (both performed)

Iggy Azalea, John Legend (both performed)

Ellie Goulding, Jennifer Lopez (both performed)

Beyonce, Jay Z (both performed)

Salma Hayek-Pinault (co-founder spoke on stage)

Yours truly (attended).

All in all a really great concert for a really great cause. For more information, go on facebook and search ‘Chime For Change’.

Thank you for your time spent on this blog.
I think a give-away is imperative to say thank you to the readers who have been following thus far.

How To Wear One Dress – 7 Times – No One Knows; Working It Series

Hi guys,

How are you doing? I am definitely fine because Big Brother Africa 2013 is back. Such a huge fan of the show.

Last week I was doing a blog run and saw this post by Patricia Bright on her blog, www.momentsofstyle.com, on this dress she got from misguided.co.uk and was totally inspired to do a similar post but for work looks.

Reminding those who have forgotten or those who do not know, metrogypsie is a brand that encapsulates the working/busy woman, the lady on her grind, as we would love to say. So basically, its all about fashion items that make your life easier as a person who is always on the move e.g clothes you’d wear to work and would be suitable for a social evening afterward as well or a bag you’d use all week long just because you want to save time and achieve more.

You know how you could be staying out for the night, and wouldn’t want to fill your bag up with so much in the name of change of clothes? Yeah, this post should show you how a dress can be really versatile.
This dress would be part of my give-away.. *yaaaaay*, our first give-away on metrogypsie, coming up in June.

For this post, I have styled with just black accessories, different footwear and one black bag, so as not to distract you from the primary aim of the feature. I hope you get inspired.

Dress: Misguided
Bag: Louis Vuitton

Look #1

Shoes: New Look
Style: Sultry
This is the dress. On the first picture, I wore it with the sleeves up on my shoulder but I think it looks much more flattering as an off-shoulder dress. I used to think bra-straps showing were awful but these days I’m digging it, so *shrugs*
You could wear a blazer on this to get a much more sexy and formal look. (I actually forgot to do that, Lol), and of course coloured shoes to add some hmmpph.

Look #2

Wedge sandals with straps: Misguided
Skirt: Zara
Style: Funky
A flared skirt is one of the easiest ways to transition this dress because it is easy to fold the skirt and place in your bag, also, you do not need to carefully fold the dress underneath as the skirt isn’t a body-conscious one. Coloured and pattern skirts would match as well.

Look #3

Sandals: Topshop
Pants: Topshop
Style: Business Casual
For this transition, you have to be extremely careful with your folding of the dress in order to avoid creases on the hip area. Fortunately, this dress is pretty light, even with all that length, it is obedient.

Look #4

Denim skirt: Dorothy Perkins
Wedge sandals with straps: Misguided
Style: Casual
This is more like a dress-down/Friday look. You could wear the shoes from Look #1 to tone it up a formal notch. This skirt is really fitted as well, so I didn’t have to fold it all up just after the waist like in Look #3. It has to be really tight on you you to take the risk of folding all the way after your hips so it doesn’t slip down.

Look #5

Dress: New Look
Brogues: Asos
Style: School Girl/Playful
On the first picture (left), I wore the look with the sleeves up. So unflattering, makes you look thicker. On the next picture, I let the dress down so the dress seems like a peplum pinafore. I thought I looked cuter without the dress showing underneath. Wore a hat in the 4th picture to add some funk. Flat shoes just because it easier to while-out on those when in school and stuff.

Look #6

Jumper: H&M
Booties: Republic
Socks: Market
Style: Street
We have seen this dress acting as a top with flared skirt, denim regular waisted skirt and 3/4 pants. Here, it is a skirt! You could totally work this with a form of jumper but one with a bit of fluff or just a size bigger to achieve this look. I just love this with Chelsea boots, plain or with laces. The socks just adds a bit of ‘character’. Lol.

Look #7

Skirt: River Island
Shoes: New Look
Style: Metrogypsie
No style feature done by me is complete without the high-waisted skirt. I.LOVE.THEM. So yes, our all rounder dress is a top once more but this time with a high-waisted skirt and a pop of colour!

Thank you for your time spent on this blog.
I think a give-away is imperative to say thank you to the readers who have been following thus far.
I would give more details on that next week, though I am sure its one of the Mondays in June.

For now, follow this blog, (the link is at the top right section)

Lastly, for any enquiries, topic suggestions or contributions, message me on stephanie@metrogypsie.org.

Do have yourselves a lovely week.

“Today, fashion is really about sensuality – how a woman feels on the inside. In the ’80’s women used suits with exaggerated shoulders and waists to make a strong impression. Women are now more comfortable with themselves and their bodies – they no longer feel the need to hide behind their clothes.” – Donna Karan.

Pregnant and Absolutely Fabulous

Hi guys,

Welcome to this week’s post. I promise you are definitely going to love our feature for this week because its different and I love her and yes!, you should love what I love. Hahaha.

Before I ramble on, this post is dedicated to my darling friend, C. I really wish I could mention her name but, I just cannot do that for some reason. I promise to cajole her to get featured on here when she is ready. This week’s post is mainly to inspire and encourage her.
I would also be featuring another friend of mine, S, very soon who is going to let her beautiful secret out on my blog!! whoopies!

I do not know about you but lately, my friends have been making use of their ovens and bringing out fresh buns to the world. So I thought why not share tips on how to look stunning while rocking that bump.
Pregnancy look definitely varies very differently amongst women because asides the fact we all have various body shapes, pregnancy on its own has different effect on our bodies. A very popular example would be with Kourtney and Kim Kardashian, sisters from the same parents yet..

So yeah, take it all in and style yourself up in your stride.

The looks of our feature this week weren’t all taken in a week as usual for obvious reasons. but they are all within 2 months. I would put the dates alongside labels, a little explanation from her (green) and my commentary (black).

Here goes,

Stella Adewunmi
Occupation: Analyst, Entrepreneur & Blogger/Fashion Consultant, Maryland, USA.
Interests: Fashion & Styling, Interior Decoration, Soccer, Arts, Music and Traveling.

These first set of pictures (4) are between March 21st and April 2nd, 2013. Stella went with her husband to Dominican Republic on a ‘babymoon’ or ‘babycation’ as her husband would say.

Look #1

Dress: Mikoh
Strolled around the resort and laid in the beach.
(So guys, this should have been look #2 but I absolutely adore this look and wanted it to show at the beginning of the post so I brought it up. I totally think these pictures are editorial worthy.)

Look #2

Romper: Asos
Shoes: Old Navy
Arrived Punta Cana a day before today. Ditched room service for an outdoor dinner.
(So cute and adorable. Love how she chose to wear green shoes as against red or purple. Playful and adorable).

Look #3

Dress: Asos
So grateful to God. Emotional feelings as well, as the thought of being a mother crosses my mind.
(Gorgeous, looks a bit too dressy for the beach but played it down with no footwear.)

Look #4

Dress: BCBG
The colbat colour compliments the sea and sky. The back details and front silk make it an outfit that can be dressed up and down.
(Oh we love them slits, always adding some provocateur behaviour to one’s look, and when she makes an exit, BAM, that back. The details on the neck saves you from neck piece issues.)

Yeah, so that’s all for the ‘babymoon’ looks. Now lets see how she rocks her looks to work. A true lady on her grind.

Look #5 (April 09)

Dress: Zara
Heels: Zara
Flats: Zara
Bag: Mom
Neck piece: Bar III
Mom visited this weekend.. Organised my closet. Baby’s room is painted light green and with dark green stripes.
(Oh yes, she wants us yo keep guessing the sex of her munchkin. Me says its a boy though. Yellow is such a refreshing colour. I do not know if you guys saw the Kim Kardshian’s controversial-shoe picture on Friday, May 17, 2013, her white Givenchy dress reminded me of this yellow dress. See below).

Look #6 (April 17)

Top: Personal Tailor
Pants: Personal Tailor
Shoes: Zara
Pretty interesting trimester. Wore this top to attend a Nigerian traditional wedding. I danced so much.
(Stella sure does know how to work a back. That bow gave this look the final icing. She looks glam, girly, edgy all a the same time. The cut on the cleavage is flirty in a cool manner then the exaggerated short front long back cut make her look eccentric.)

Look #7 (April 23)

Blazer: Zara
Atop: JCrew
Pants: Asos Maternity jeans
Clutch: JCrew
Shoes: Zara
I had my 3D/4D scan appointment today. It was great seeing my munchkin’s face. Throughout the scan, my munchkin had his/her hand in the face sucking a finger, super cute.
(Business casual and simply chic look with that clutch. Lets not get to the heels just yet.)

Look #8 (April 27)

Top: H&M
Pants: Zara
Shoes: Valentino
A lot of leaf print this season. I love the print’s colours. Matched this with my Valentino rick-stud shoes.
(…and we love them print colours too. See how she did not match the pants with the almost obvious green or yellow? I just love that, makes one’s ensemble seem more interesting. Oh my Prada! who doesn’t adore these Valentino pair?)

Look #9 (April 30)

Jacket: Zara
PAnts: Zara
Shoes: MiuMiu
I had an amazing day at work today as my co-workers organised a surprise baby shower for me. I opened my gifts. I feel so blessed.
(This is trendy on so many levels, stripes are in, the black/white pattern is in, 3/4 pants suit is in and then colour blocking, well, that has sort of stuck with us now.)

Look #10 (May 2)

Dress: Asos
Purse: Della x Urban Outfitters
Shoes: MiuMiu
I have been wearing different shades of blue lately. This is not a maternity dress but its absolutely stylish and comfortable.
(I bet someone with flat abs wouldn’t rock this as great as she did as the protruding tummy makes the front seem shorter thereby making the back look longer than it should look thereby making it more stylish).

Look #11 (May 8)

Top: Asos
Skirt: Asos
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
In an effort to keep up with the black/white theme, I wore this classy and elegant top with the checkered skirt. I love the length, the stretchy feel and pattern of the skirt.
(The cut of the shoulder of this top gives her an 80’s look, so classic and chic. Though this checkered dress reminds me of cartoon network, fashion-wise it seems 50’s. All together, Stella looks proper retro. Loving this. My second favourite.)

Look #12 (May 14)

Dress: Zara
Clutch: Asos
Shoes: Christian Louboutin
Neck piece: H&M
Spent Mother’s day relaxing with my husband. I’d never had the opportunity to wear this dress. A great feature of the slit dress is the sketchy nature which works perfectly with my growing bump.
(I do not know about this pavement she is standing on because all I picture with this ensemble is the a red carpet. Miss Jolie had better watch out. That clutch and the pearls gave this some elegance, amazing.)

So guys, that’s it from the zara-loving, heels-strutting, back-wowing Stella. She runs a successful blog, so for all this and more goodies, check out her blog (here). It is also on the right side bar of my blog as one of the blogs I follow.

One thing I continually tell her is that she makes it seem so easy… my ladies, all this looking glam while pregnant takes loads of effort. Working dem heels is another chapter, please don’t try it if you cannot handle them and most especially if you weren’t rocking heels before you took in.

Do leave a comment below as usual on your favourite look and if time permits you, create a look of your own inspired by the outfits above.  A winner would be picked who and that look would be worn in a follow-up post.

Do have yourselves a lovely week.

Lastly, for any enquiries message me on stephanie@metrogypsie.org.
