How to Wear Women’s Knitted Cardigans this Fall/Winter for Moms | MG Guest

Hi lovely,

how are you? (in the real sense). I am quite excited myself as it is Friday and I have some juicy plans for the weekend – this obviously includes content creation. Autumn is a fav season of mine, asides the great fashion, photography is so amazing with those evening skies and leaves. I would be filming a winter capsule wardrobe content this weekend, so stay peeled on my instagram to ensure you don’t miss this. Talking about staples, we have a guest !!!!! *applause*

Now lets talk cardigans so you can make the best of my short-form content mentioned above. Here goes..

By now, knitted cardigans are (or should be!) a staple in every woman’s wardrobe. Warm and comfy, cardigans usually make us think of something easy to throw over your shoulders when cozy on a couch or driving your kids to school. Of course, it’s a classic example of a “comfort over style” piece, but if you’re looking to refresh your wardrobe for this fall/winter season – don’t dismiss it just yet. Below are some of the best ways to dress your cardigan up or down, depending on the occasion, so read on!

How to wear women’s cardigans

Everyday & Casual

Add your favorite cardigan to a plain tee and some denim, and you’ll end up with a timeless casual, and comfy look. It’s hard to go wrong with this combo, but we recommend tailored jeans. This will help you look more put together and prevent overwhelming the outfit with layers of fabric. Tuck, your t-shirt in, grab your favorite cardigan and finish with an across-the-shoulder bag to tie the whole fit together.

If that doesn’t sound comfy enough, consider styling a long, robe-style cardigan with an understated pair of jeans and a sweatshirt. You’ll be warm, comfortable, and as close to wearing your robe outside as it gets while still looking chic and ready to take on the day!

Work & Business

For everyday business wear, we recommend a classic fit: a cropped, fine-knit cardigan thrown over a slim-fitting top and a pencil skirt. Throw in heels to give off some serious Meghan-Markle-in-Suits energy, or stay comfy in flats. In any case, this is a super easy and quick way to look extra classy. You won’t have to worry about dressing an extra person on those hectic school-day mornings.

Or, consider dressing up a fine knit, slimline button-down cardigan with some high wasted palazzo pants or chinos. Choose neutral colors, such as light brown or beige, and avoid small, busy patterns to keep the look professional. For accessories, go with a dark brown belt and a black bag, maybe even a pair of brown sunglasses if you can get away with “business casual.” Dress up your outfit with kitten heels or dress it down with loafers, and you’ll be walking into that company meeting looking like the owner.

Semi-formal & Formal

For formal events such as weddings, we recommend a bolero-style cardigan. It will be a great addition to any dress while keeping you warm and even adding a couple of pockets to your outfit, win-win! This women’s cardigan will work great with long and short dresses, but if you’re rocking a figure-hugging shorter piece, you should also try draping a long cardigan over your shoulders. Whether you opt for something fine and light or something thick-knitted and bougie, you will look extremely chic when playing with lengths in this way.

When the situation calls for a more toned-down outfit, try wearing a blouse tucked into tailored cigarette trousers and tie it all together with a fine-knitted cardigan. Any length will work here, but try sticking to something that reaches the waistline of your pants or below in order to give your outfit a uniform shape. Consider choosing clothes in the same shade of navy or black for an elegant, understated look.

Why women’s cardigans should be your fall/winter staple

As you can see, women’s cardigans are not only super comfy but also versatile. They’re a great way to tie any look together and shouldn’t be missing from a busy mom’s wardrobe. Ranging in length and thickness, it’s a single item that you can wear this whole fall/winter season, saving you both time and money.
