How to Wear the Pleated Flared Skirt; Working It series

Hi guys,

Welcome back to my blog. The previous post was up for two weeks as I put so much energy and time getting it together. Work has been pretty hectic which is very annoying considering the weather has been really beautiful lately.

There is so much going on right now with me, work, friends visiting from overseas, my professional exams et al so apologies if at some point the blog is updated every fortnight.

You know how you’d have a certain frock that’s not one of your favourites but you always remember it when you got nothing to wear. Yes, that’s what the post is about. I realised the second time I wore this skirt that I never really wanted to wear it until I’d searched and searched my wardrobe to no avail…then I decided to take pictures whenever I did so.

Bellow are the various ways I have worn this skirt right from Winter 2012 till sometime last week.

Cheers people, have a lovely week..

A Superhero’s Work Style + the Chime For Change event

Hi guys,

This week’s feature is a wife, mum and business woman in Dubai, UAE.  I finally caught up with her to get a week’s worth of her work style, and guess what?

She is 6 months pregnant as well!

I would go right out to the pictures as I have got a lot to share on this post.

Pants: Zara
Bag: River Island
Shoes: Jorge Bischoff
Style – Corporate Chic
Inspiration – My final project presentation. Today at my classes, I finally have to present the short film I had been working on with these group of people. I definitely had to look corporate but added a bit of funk with the sandals and pastel colour.

Inspiration – My husband. He bought every single thing I had on tonight just for our date. So yes, I had to wear them. *blush*

A day at MT salon

So there guys, we have it from Sally. Thank you so much dear for letting us have you on here.

Just before we call it a week, I want to share some pictures from the concert I attended on Saturday June 01, 2013, Chime For Change. It is a new Women Empowerment event pioneered 100 years after the year Emily Davison became a martyr for women’s rights when she threw herself at the Epsom Derby.

It was totally star studded. Below are pictures of artistes who came on stage;

Madonna and Ryan Reynolds (with wife, Blake Lively) amongst others like Zoe Saldana and Jada Pinkett Smith gave touching and inspiring speeches on how to make donations and support the cause.

Rita Ora, Jessie J (both performed)

Laura Pausini, Mary J Blige (both performed)

Florence and the Machine, Timbaland (both performed)

Iggy Azalea, John Legend (both performed)

Ellie Goulding, Jennifer Lopez (both performed)

Beyonce, Jay Z (both performed)

Salma Hayek-Pinault (co-founder spoke on stage)

Yours truly (attended).

All in all a really great concert for a really great cause. For more information, go on facebook and search ‘Chime For Change’.

Thank you for your time spent on this blog.
I think a give-away is imperative to say thank you to the readers who have been following thus far.

As promised last week, the dates for the give-away are 17 June – 30 June, 2013.

For now, follow this blog, (the link is at the top right section)

Also, like us on facebook by clicking here.

Do leave a comment below as usual on your favourite look and if time permits you, create a look of your own inspired by the outfits above.  A winner would be picked by Sally who would then wear the look in a follow-up post.

Have a great week.

How To Wear One Dress – 7 Times – No One Knows; Working It Series

Hi guys,

How are you doing? I am definitely fine because Big Brother Africa 2013 is back. Such a huge fan of the show.

Last week I was doing a blog run and saw this post by Patricia Bright on her blog,, on this dress she got from and was totally inspired to do a similar post but for work looks.

Reminding those who have forgotten or those who do not know, metrogypsie is a brand that encapsulates the working/busy woman, the lady on her grind, as we would love to say. So basically, its all about fashion items that make your life easier as a person who is always on the move e.g clothes you’d wear to work and would be suitable for a social evening afterward as well or a bag you’d use all week long just because you want to save time and achieve more.

You know how you could be staying out for the night, and wouldn’t want to fill your bag up with so much in the name of change of clothes? Yeah, this post should show you how a dress can be really versatile.
This dress would be part of my give-away.. *yaaaaay*, our first give-away on metrogypsie, coming up in June.

For this post, I have styled with just black accessories, different footwear and one black bag, so as not to distract you from the primary aim of the feature. I hope you get inspired.

Dress: Misguided

Bag: Louis Vuitton

Look #1

Shoes: New Look
Style: Sultry
This is the dress. On the first picture, I wore it with the sleeves up on my shoulder but I think it looks much more flattering as an off-shoulder dress. I used to think bra-straps showing were awful but these days I’m digging it, so *shrugs*
You could wear a blazer on this to get a much more sexy and formal look. (I actually forgot to do that, Lol), and of course coloured shoes to add some hmmpph.

Look #2

Wedge sandals with straps: Misguided
Skirt: Zara
Style: Funky
A flared skirt is one of the easiest ways to transition this dress because it is easy to fold the skirt and place in your bag, also, you do not need to carefully fold the dress underneath as the skirt isn’t a body-conscious one. Coloured and pattern skirts would match as well.

Look #3

Sandals: Topshop
Pants: Topshop
Style: Business Casual
For this transition, you have to be extremely careful with your folding of the dress in order to avoid creases on the hip area. Fortunately, this dress is pretty light, even with all that length, it is obedient.

Look #4

Denim skirt: Dorothy Perkins
Wedge sandals with straps: Misguided
Style: Casual
This is more like a dress-down/Friday look. You could wear the shoes from Look #1 to tone it up a formal notch. This skirt is really fitted as well, so I didn’t have to fold it all up just after the waist like in Look #3. It has to be really tight on you you to take the risk of folding all the way after your hips so it doesn’t slip down.

Look #5

Dress: New Look
Brogues: Asos
Style: School Girl/Playful
On the first picture (left), I wore the look with the sleeves up. So unflattering, makes you look thicker. On the next picture, I let the dress down so the dress seems like a peplum pinafore. I thought I looked cuter without the dress showing underneath. Wore a hat in the 4th picture to add some funk. Flat shoes just because it easier to while-out on those when in school and stuff.

Look #6

Jumper: H&M
Booties: Republic
Socks: Market
Style: Street
We have seen this dress acting as a top with flared skirt, denim regular waisted skirt and 3/4 pants. Here, it is a skirt! You could totally work this with a form of jumper but one with a bit of fluff or just a size bigger to achieve this look. I just love this with Chelsea boots, plain or with laces. The socks just adds a bit of ‘character’. Lol.

Look #7

Skirt: River Island
Shoes: New Look
Style: Metrogypsie
No style feature done by me is complete without the high-waisted skirt. I.LOVE.THEM. So yes, our all rounder dress is a top once more but this time with a high-waisted skirt and a pop of colour!

Thank you for your time spent on this blog.
I think a give-away is imperative to say thank you to the readers who have been following thus far.
I would give more details on that next week, though I am sure its one of the Mondays in June.

“Today, fashion is really about sensuality – how a woman feels on the inside. In the ’80’s women used suits with exaggerated shoulders and waists to make a strong impression. Women are now more comfortable with themselves and their bodies – they no longer feel the need to hide behind their clothes.” – Donna Karan.

Weekend with Donatella’s Versace + PA Guru

Hi guys,

I have missed you all so terribly.. How is everyone? Haha, what really am I typing?? Anyways, I had an amazing day on my birthday last week. Here’s thanking everyone who wished well, sent gifts and prayed for me. God bless you. I really appreciate your efforts.

On Sunday, yesterday, I was at the Southbank Centre in London for the Day 2 of Vogue Festival. There was a great and inspiring talk from Donatella Versace and then a t-shirt signing afterward. The queue was as long as God knows what, everywhere was so packed in an orderly manner but before one could pronounce Balenciaga, my lady said she was done and had a flight to catch. OOOookay..

Anyhoo, that was such a pity for them ones who came just for the signings, got tees but yeah, had to hear that.
Trust me though, I was amongst the first 10 people on that line.

Here are some pictures..

So elated after I got my tee signed.

Camisole: H&M
Skirt: Matalan
Shoe: Newlook
Neckpiece: Random store
Style – Corporate
Inspiration – The season in the western world, Spring. I could’t inculcate it so much in my whole outfit because of meetings today so I just did the flowery jacket. I love heels as stated above.

Top: Primark
Inner top: Primark
Skirt: Newlook
Shoe: Risky
Bag: Michael Kors
Style – Business Casual
Inspiration – After-work plans. I had  to look not-so-serious so that I could blend nicely for my evening.

Dress: Catherine
Shoes: Newlook
Bag: Michael Kors
Style – Chic
Inspiration – A conversation I had with my mum on simplicity. I decided to have a single dress item without a jacket or belt.

Top: Kaftan from India
Jeggings: Zara
Bag: Furla
Shoe: Charlotte Russe
Style – Modern Culture
Inspiration – Friday really. Its dress-down day but I didn’t want to wear casual stuff neither did I want to wear Nigerian ‘trads’.

Top: H&M
Skirt: Forever 21
Bag: H&M
Sandals: H&M
Neckpiece: Random Store
Style – Smart Casual
Inspiration – Well its the weekend so I have to reflect that by tucking my shirt in. The weekend was my inspiration

Embellished blouse: Tailor made
Iro (bottoms): Tailor made
Head-tie: Lagos Market (beautifully tied by my mum)
Neckpiece: Random Store
Ring: Aldo
Style – Nigerian
Inspiration – Asoebi. My colleague was getting married today.

Her Sunday look is so gorgeous. I just feel like rocking this today right now to work.

There it goes from the sweet Yetunde. Thanks babe for letting us have you on here.

Asoebi for those who do not know what it means is act of wearing a uniform fabric at an event like a wedding, birthday party or burial ceremony, to distinguish different groups of people at the gathering usually according to their relationship with the hosts.

Do leave a comment below as usual on your favourite look and if time permits you, create a look of your own inspired by the outfits above.  A winner would be picked by Yetunde who would then wear the look in a follow-up post.

PilOt | #HauteyOfTheWeek, Madalina. #Debut

Asides the day I took my Bloomberg exams, I cannot remember having to stare blankly at my computer screen this long. Whoop! there goes my first sentence.

Anyways, welcome to my blog people :). This is going to be something like a lookbook. Periodically, I would put up posts of people, mostly females. Each feature would have pictures (possibly a Monday to Friday thing) showing what the person had on on each day and what inspired that look. I have always been beguiled by work wear…not just items in a store labelled as office clothes or whatever but what a lady would eventually decide to wear while in a bid to secure the necessities of life..

This is basically the idea behind metrogypsie.  I only hope I would successfully juggle this with my really tasking day job.

So then, here we go..

Occupation: Finance (Deloitte LLP, London)
Interests: Handball, Fitness, Meeting people, Music.

Cream coloured Jacket – H&M,

Black/Grey Dress – French Connection UK
Shoes – Newlook
Scarf and Bag – Random
Sheer coloured tights

Style Inspiration: Okay so this is one of my ummmph work dresses.. I went for an art exhibition (fancy huh) on Sunday and met so many posh people so I was in high spirits on Monday morning lol. Was in the mood to get some office attention so, yes..

Black/White Jacket: My tailor back home (Romania)

Baby Pink with black lapel Jacket: Select
White Shirt: H&M
Skirt: Jane Norman
Shoes: Newlook
Sheer coloured tights

Style Inspiration: Today, I decided to look a tad serious and warm. I did not want to wear colour but managed red lip stick and a pony tail to look innocent too. *wink*

Black Jacket: Newlook

Red Dress: Collection
Shoes: Newlook
Sheer coloured tights

Style Inspiration: I had Victoria Bekham in mind while I dressed up this morning lol…okay maybe not with the length of my shoe heels. I am not sure why I’m smiling cos Steph made me almost strip in the cold. Anyway, I felt elegant and dressed elegantly.

Black dress: Dorothy Perkins

Jacket: Dorothy Perkins
Shoes: Newlook

Style Inspiration: I have two dates today.. *giggles* hence this my simple and classic number. Got back from my coffee date before this shoot. i love love this dress cos although the bottom is so tight without a slit, I walk slowly but really lady like as well and it accentuates my body real good. I love it for a first impression. My inspirations today were my dates basically. Steph made me stand like hangers…said its the model stance. Ha!

..and its Friday!

Dress: Topshop

Boots: Newlook
Style Inspiration: Lol, thats how this silly babe says she’s tired of typing.. So I’d handle this bit.. Mad is  a surfer chic in her daily style routine,,you know like em beach loving…life is always a beach sorta people. She likes to drape anything on and just chill. She really hates work clothes. Well yeah so she basically did same today. Its Friday and as you might already know we dress down over here. She had to do black tights as against sheer ones because I think the dress sticks to her body so much and the back goes really short at some point after she walks for a bit.
I am not sure if these outfits truly depict me I actually love to wear make-up but mostly when I’m going out on a date or to party. Besides I was instructed to let my dressing flow with my moods and all that this week by you-kno-who. Yes and I really love Newlook shoes. I think they get super comfortable quickly and are extremely affordable. Besides she a Subject Matter Expert at work meaning she always has to patrol around her department, her comfort is imperative.
There it goes from Pink Scarf Madalina. Thanks babe for letting us have you on here.
Do leave a comment below on your favourite look and if time permits you, create a look of your own inspired by the outfits above.  A winner would be picked by Maddy who would then wear the look in a follow-up post.
Thanks guys,
Catch you next time.
